Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy and Indirect Ophthalmoscopy

Dr. Bliss uses two distinct instruments to perform a complete exam on your pet’s eyes.

A Slit Lamp provides magnification and illumination to better view the entire eye and its structures- including the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, anterior chamber, iris, and lens. This is the same type of instrument your ophthalmologist uses to examine your eyes, just a handheld version.

Remember when your ophthalmologist tells you to look just past their ear? An Indirect Ophthalmoscope provides a large view of the fundus, or retina. Using a special lens to focus on the structure, Dr. Bliss can see both the optic nerve and retinal vessels.

Our clinic is specially designed to provide the best low light environment needed for these exams.
